Trip to The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum

 

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum is located on the grounds of the famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway is recognized as one of the most highly visible museums in the world devoted to automobiles and auto racing. The facility encompasses 96,000 square feet of museum and administrative office space. The museum’s displays also include equipment and methods used for timing and scoring from the first Indianapolis 500 to the present along with an extensive trophy collection including the famous Borg-Warner Trophy. The museum displays approximately 75 vehicles of its vast collection at all times as well as other featured attractions. The museum rotates the displayed vehicles periodically from the many vehicles in their collection to keep the museum always new and exciting.

Also enjoy shopping at the two Speedway gift shops and the track’s photography department for exclusive Speedway memorabilia.

 

Bus tours of the historic 2.5 mile oval are also available at a minimal fee for those who want to take a not so fast lap around the famous track.

Trip to the Indianapolis Zoo and Gardens

 

The Indianapolis Zoo and White River Gardens located in the White River State Park downtown Indianapolis are a world class facilities dedicated to providing excellent care for animals and plants and a better future for all living things. The newly renovated Waters Building is the Zoo’s state of the art facility for aquatic creatures boasting a dog shark touch pool and the largest collection of seahorses on display anywhere. Also displayed are jellies fishes, penguins and many more fish species. Our trip to the Indianapolis Zoo will include a special staff guided tour of the Waters Building offering knowledgeable information, insight and stories of their experiences. After the tour of the Waters Building you will be free to enjoy the remainder of the many Zoos exhibits as well as shop in the gift shop for souvenirs or stop at the Café on the Commons for refreshments and food.

 

 Another popular attraction is the dolphins in the Dolphin Dome building where you can walk through a glass tunnel and viewing dome located at the bottom of the main dolphin tank providing a unique under water view and experience.

 

White River Gardens is the Zoo’s botanical gardens featuring a stunningly beautiful 3.3 acres with over 1,000 different plant varieties. You will be inspired, impressed, enlivened and entertained as you stroll through the one and a half miles of flowered pathways.

Trip to Chateau Thomas Winery

The Chateau Thomas Winery was founded by Dr. Charles R. Thomas in 1984 and is located just minutes to the West of Indianapolis in Plainfield, IN. During its history, Chateau Thomas wines have been entered in international competitions and have won over 400 medals and awards, including many Double-Gold Medals, and a Best-in-the-Nation award.  Two wines voted to be of the 100 best wines east of the Rockies in 1999, and a Corning Cup for the best red wine at the International Eastern.  Chateau Thomas Winery has also been awarded with four Governor's Trophies at the Indy International Wine Competition (the nation's second largest international wine competition) as the best winery in Indiana.

Collecting Trip in one of our Local Streams

Our own intrepid explorer, Bill Flowers, will be leading an expedition into the wilds of Indiana.  All of those who are brave at heart will get to see all of the splendor of the local Indiana wildlife.  Darters, mad toms, minnows and more!  All you need is a fishing license and off we go! 

Collecting Trip Info

1.       Everyone must have a valid Indiana fishing license.  Can be purchased on line at: http://www.in.gov/ai/appfiles/dnr-license/index.html

2.       Non-resident single day is presently $9.00

3.       None of the water we will be in will be over 3 feet deep.

4.       All game fish no matter what size have to be returned.

5.       There will be plenty of seines and dipnets provided but if you want to bring your own, you can. Just make sure it meets Indiana regulations.

6.       The water temperatures during April will normally run in the high 60’s or low 70’s. While that will feel cold, you can get by with tennis shoes and pants. If you can’t handle those temperatures, I recommend you bring a pair of waders.
